Apple Unveils Next-Gen Apple Intelligence at WWDC26
- •Apple introduced next-generation Apple Intelligence at WWDC26, utilizing Google's Gemini models as its foundation.
- •The upgraded Siri AI now understands personal context and on-screen content to execute cross-app actions.
- •Xcode 27 adds new coding agents that allow developers to integrate models from various third-party providers.
Apple unveiled the next generation of its Apple Intelligence system, powered by new Apple Foundation Models, during the annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC26) on June 8, 2026. This system is built through a collaboration with Google and leverages Gemini models, maintaining privacy through a hybrid approach of on-device processing and Private Cloud Compute. Google had previously confirmed its multi-year partnership with Apple in January 2026, committing to provide its Gemini models and cloud infrastructure.
The revamped Siri AI significantly expands beyond traditional voice assistant roles, integrating deeply into iPhone, iPad, Mac, Apple Watch, and Apple Vision Pro. Users can now query content directly from their screens, search across emails, photos, and messages, and access real-time web information. The system also supports cross-app actions, such as editing messages or managing playlists, supported by a new dedicated app for conversational history. Developer testing begins immediately, with a beta version arriving for English-language devices later this year.
Image Playground now supports photorealistic image generation, allowing users to modify objects through text prompts or brush tools to resize or relocate elements. All AI-generated imagery is automatically embedded with a hidden SynthID watermark. The Photos app also gains new editing capabilities, including Spatial Reframing, image extension, and a Clean Up tool.
Apple also expanded its AI developer ecosystem. Updated App Intents frameworks allow developers to connect their own applications to Siri AI's on-screen awareness and action capabilities. Additionally, Xcode 27 introduces coding agents that support integrating models from Anthropic, Google, and OpenAI directly into development workflows. These features are scheduled for wide release this fall across iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27.
