The Philippines’ Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) is partnering with Google Cloud to integrate agentic AI solutions across government digital platforms, including the national mobile superapp and digital ID. The initiative aims to enable citizens to access services like business registration, health schedule checks, and disaster relief through simple voice or text prompts in local languages.

More than 50,000 public officers will gain access to Gemini Enterprise and Google Workspace via the government’s e-marketplace, a procurement system launched in the first quarter of 2026. This deployment allows staff to build and deploy AI agents within a governed environment to retrieve and synthesize data from disparate sources. DICT intends to track metrics such as productivity gains, cost savings, and user satisfaction, with plans to scale access to over 200,000 public officers over the next 18 months. The system is designed for interoperability, featuring built-in connectors for Google Workspace and third-party applications like Microsoft 365.

To address security risks, the DICT Cybersecurity Bureau is establishing a cross-agency cyber defence alliance supported by Google Cloud’s Cybershield, a platform for detecting and responding to AI-powered threats. This alliance currently brings together security teams from 56 public agencies, with a goal to onboard 90 agencies by the end of June 2026. The security measures serve as a component of the national defence architecture for the ASEAN Summits hosted by the Philippines between April and November 2026.

Supporting these AI services is an expanded physical connectivity backbone, including the extension of the Taiwan-Philippines-US (TPU) subsea cable system. Funded by Google and Pacific Connect stakeholders, the infrastructure upgrade aims to provide the high-bandwidth data flow necessary for advanced AI applications. The expanded capacity will also facilitate improved free Wi-Fi access for public schools, hospitals, and community centers across the country.
