Can AI Submit an Inquiry on Your Website? Check Your Buttons and Forms

A customer asks AI to contact your company about a service. What happens if it cannot work out which button to click? Even a well-explained service is unlikely to lead to a conversation if the inquiry stops halfway through. Google’s web development guidance explains that AI agents use HTML and accessibility information, as well as what is on screen, to find actions they can take. Start by making every step clear, from the contact button to input errors and the submission confirmation.

Clear Contact Buttons

Give AI the public URL of your main service page, or a screenshot without personal information, and try this request:

Find where a customer who wants a consultation should click next, and flag any confusing wording. If you can inspect the page directly, include the button labels and where they lead. Do not guess at behavior you cannot check. List those points for the person responsible to review.

At this stage, review the public page without sending a real inquiry. Labels such as “More,” “OK,” or an arrow alone leave visitors relying on context to know what will happen. For a consultation request, name the action clearly, such as “Ask about our services.” Do not label an application that incurs a charge as a simple inquiry.

Check both the visible wording and the name that software reads. Ask your developer to use links for navigation and buttons for actions, with the right role and name for each element. A box styled to look like a button can be hard to identify or operate with some interaction methods. Also check whether the page shifts unexpectedly or another element covers the button.

Form Fields and Required Details

Gray placeholder text such as “Enter your email” disappears as soon as someone starts typing. Keep a visible label such as “Email for replies” above the field, and explain whether it is required and which format is accepted. In the page’s code, that label must be connected to the actual field. W3C’s forms guidance also recommends labels that identify input controls and are clearly associated with them.

Reduce the information required for an initial inquiry, too. Could your team ask the next question with just a message and an email address for replies? Requiring an address, revenue figures, or attachments you do not use adds work for visitors and more information for your business to manage. Review any required consent and privacy information against the actual purpose of collection.

The demo below lets you compare a fictional contact form before and after improvements. Select “Load invalid example,” then try the submission button in each mode to compare the guidance. Next, select “Load valid example” to see the completion message, and click the submission button again to check the duplicate-submission notice. Your entries stay on this screen and are not sent or saved. Do not enter real personal information.

This is an educational demo for comparing field labels, buttons, error messages, and completion messages. It does not measure how often a real AI agent successfully submits an inquiry.

Error Messages People Can Fix

“An error occurred” gives visitors little help with what to do next. Explain which field has a problem, what is wrong, and how to fix it. For an email format error, place a message such as “Enter an email address with @ and a domain” near the relevant field.

Keep the other entries intact and make it possible to move to the first field with an error. This reduces the effort of starting over. Show an error message alongside a red border, and ask your developer to check whether assistive tools such as screen readers can identify the error.

Before launch, test valid entries and these situations:

  • A required field is left blank
  • An email address or another entry uses the wrong format
  • Text or an attachment exceeds the size limit
  • A visitor clicks again while submission is taking longer than expected

Use fictional details on a test server or through an approved testing procedure, keeping tests separate from real customer inquiries. Check whether an error forces someone to rewrite a long message and whether, on mobile, an error message appears far from its field. Save the error screen and the steps that produced it so the person responsible can reproduce and fix the problem.

A Clear Submission Confirmation

A button changing color or a field becoming empty does not prove that an inquiry was received. Once the server confirms receipt, show a clear result such as “Your inquiry has been received,” along with the actual next steps. If your service issues a reference number, display it. If it sends a confirmation email, indicate whether that email was sent. Do not promise a response time your team does not actually support.

Show when a submission is in progress and handle repeated clicks. Disabling the button alone cannot fully prevent duplicates, so your developer also needs a way to handle them on the server. In real testing, check that the completion screen matches the inquiry record received by the administrator.

Work through improvements in this order: find the contact route → enter the required information → correct errors → confirm completion. Have people follow the steps using a keyboard and a mobile device. If you have an authorized AI testing environment, compare the same fictional inquiry there. Record where the process stops and whether duplicate inquiries appear to make the next fix easier to identify.

WebMCP is a proposed web standard still in development that helps sites expose their functions clearly to AI. Chrome offers a trial for participating sites, but it is not a feature supported by every browser and AI system. Nor has it been presented as a requirement for search visibility. Start with a clear interface and well-structured form fields, then check how the agents you actually use behave.

When a customer delegates an inquiry, can both people and AI tell what to enter, what to fix, and when the process is complete?

Reviewing your contact form is a chance to prepare for AI use while improving the experience for existing visitors. Assess the real effect using inquiry completion records before and after the changes.

Choosing the right AI for your work also matters when you want to spot friction on public pages and turn it into a list of fixes for your team.
