Kimi K3 is a multimodal reasoning model developed by Moonshot AI and the successor to the Kimi K2 family. It is designed for agent-based tasks that require extended planning and execution, rather than conversation alone. The model can process text, images, and video within the same system and maintain context across long documents, large codebases, and multi-stage workflows. Kimi K3 supports software development, knowledge work, deep research, visual analysis, and digital content creation. In a compatible agent environment, it can search for information, use external tools, operate terminal-based workflows, coordinate subtasks, and revise its output based on intermediate results. Its visual understanding can also be combined with coding for tasks involving interfaces, games, three-dimensional content, and video editing. The model is available through Kimi, Kimi Work, Kimi Code, and the Kimi API. Moonshot AI describes Kimi K3 as an open-weight model and plans to release its full weights separately. Because of its large mixture-of-experts architecture, local operation requires substantially more computing resources than smaller open models.
