Sakana Namazu is a Japanese-specialized LLM that Sakana AI built by post-training Moonshot AI's open Kimi K2.6 model on its own data. It had been powering the free Sakana Chat service since March 2026 and was released externally as an OpenAI-compatible API on August 3, 2026. Its focus is Japanese-specific expression: business honorifics and documents, place names and proper nouns, and everyday context. It retains the base model's reasoning performance (AIME26, MMLU-Pro, LiveCodeBench v6) while exceeding the base on Japanese instruction-following and response quality (JFBench) and on political neutrality (FairPoliticsQA, 34.10% to 56.30%). It supports a 256K-token context, image and file input (PDF, XLSX, CSV, DOCX and others, up to 4 MB per file), built-in web search and code execution tools, and extended thinking. It is not offered in the EU, EEA, UK, or Switzerland while GDPR compliance work is ongoing.
