AI Song Reaches No. 3 on Melon
  • •“Did You Become the Adult You Dreamed Of?” ranked No. 3 on Melon and No. 2 on YouTube Music.
  • •Humans wrote the lyrics; Suno generated the melody, arrangement, and vocals.
  • •Glorywave called for practical standards on human contributions, copyright, and revenue from AI music.

“Did You Become the Adult You Dreamed Of?” by the AI music project Meumure reached No. 3 on Melon’s Top 100 and No. 2 on YouTube Music about three months after its June 23 release. It ranked No. 18 on Melon’s chart at 8 a.m. on October 2, then rose to No. 3 by 6 p.m. on October 13. By mid-October, its YouTube video had passed 10 million views and reached 12.95 million. The song pairs lyrics about the realities and worries of adulthood with a rock-ballad melody and expressive vocals. Some listeners said it comforted them; others were surprised to learn later that the vocals were AI-generated.

Glorywave, the songwriting team behind the song, consists of Lee Yong-seok and Choi Seong-hyeok. The pair have worked with singers including Hwang Chi-yeul and Gilgu Bonggu for more than 10 years. They recently formed Meumure, a project dedicated to AI music, and have released several songs. A person wrote the lyrics, while Suno generated the melody, arrangement, and vocals. The team then edited the material in Cubase and mixed and mastered the track.

Glorywave said Suno proposed unexpected melodies and arrangements and helped the team quickly try different genres and vocals, reducing production time. Previously, they could judge a song’s overall shape only after arranging it or recording guide vocals; Suno let them explore more options. However, they had to repeat work because they could not easily revise specific sections, and they edited the lyrics themselves to fix awkward Korean pronunciation typical of AI. The team said it moves between conventional production methods and AI rather than relying on AI alone.

The producers disclosed in the song description that Suno generated the vocals. For AI-assisted music, a challenge is setting standards to distinguish human-created work from AI output and account for people’s contributions in rights and revenue settlements. Concerns also include using existing recordings for training without permission and mass production of low-quality or spam-like tracks. Glorywave said the industry needs practical, reasonable standards that identify what people contributed and how, rather than judging only whether AI was used. The team plans to expand its use of AI music by adding live instrumental performances and human vocals. It said it could not confidently answer the question in the song’s title, but hoped its feelings and concerns would reach listeners and resonate with them.
