AMD Plans Seoul AI Test Cluster for Next Spring
- •AMD, FuriosaAI and MangoBoost plan to build an AI infrastructure test cluster in Seoul next spring.
- •The cluster will combine CPUs, GPUs, an NPU and a DPU to assess infrastructure efficiency and potential uses.
- •AMD also plans to discuss establishing multiple Centers of Excellence in South Korea next year.
AMD said on the 4th that it had signed a memorandum of understanding with FuriosaAI and MangoBoost to build a heterogeneous AI infrastructure test cluster in Seoul next spring. Keith Strier, AMD senior vice president for global AI markets, said the companies would establish their first reference cluster at AMD Advancing AI World Tour Seoul 2026, held at the Westin Seoul Parnas Hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.
A heterogeneous AI infrastructure cluster links different types of chips to assess infrastructure efficiency and potential uses. The planned cluster will integrate AMD CPUs and GPUs, FuriosaAI’s NPU and MangoBoost’s DPU. The companies aim to reduce reliance on an AI chip supply chain centered on Nvidia.
AMD also plans to develop its cooperation with the South Korean government and discuss establishing multiple Centers of Excellence (CoEs) next year. In a video welcome address, AMD CEO Lisa Su said the new Korean CoEs would support collaboration with local universities, startups and industry leaders. She said South Korea plays an important role in shaping the future of the AI ecosystem.
The memorandum was signed in Seoul on the 4th. Event photos showed MangoBoost CEO Kim Jang-woo, AMD senior vice president Keith Strier and FuriosaAI CEO Baek Jun-ho in attendance. The cluster is planned for next spring, while the establishment of multiple CoEs remains under discussion. The article did not disclose a construction budget, cluster size or performance targets.
