Anthropic unveiled a research preview of Claude Duet, a personal AI agent built on Claude Opus 5.5, on the 22nd local time. The tool can review connected files and apps to find and carry out tasks without users having to issue instructions each time. Anthropic said it developed the agent for professionals and small-business owners who have difficulty managing work and schedules.
Claude Duet is available through Anthropic’s website and its iPhone and Android apps. The company is accepting applications in the US from subscribers to paid plans costing at least $20 per month. Users can receive a daily briefing summarizing key information and direct the agent to check email and messaging apps and send messages when needed. It can continue working in its own virtual computer even when the user’s computer is off or the user is away.
The agent connects to more than 6,000 services, including Gmail, Slack, LinkedIn, Stripe and Shopify. Linking Stripe and Shopify digital wallets also allows it to pay for goods. It requires explicit user approval before sensitive actions such as sending email, making payments, signing documents or deleting files; securities trading and money transfers are prohibited regardless of approval. It automatically rejects requests to share the most sensitive information, such as credit card and identity document numbers, externally, and sends health or financial information only when users explicitly instruct it to.
Anthropic said the early version of Claude Duet may misunderstand context or misjudge how urgent a task is.
