Anthropic Reports Results Ahead of Planned IPO
  • •Anthropic’s third-quarter net loss fell 64.9% to $23.29 billion as revenue reached $16.962 billion, about 12 times the year-earlier level.
  • •The company reported $895.4 billion in future AI infrastructure purchase and lease commitments, including $69.8 billion due within 12 months.
  • •Anthropic plans to list Class A common stock on Nasdaq this month under ticker ANT; investors estimate a $1.5 trillion valuation.

Ahead of a planned Nasdaq listing this month, Anthropic filed its third-quarter results with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Revenue was $16.962 billion, about 12 times the year-earlier level, while net loss was $23.29 billion. Revenue rose 46.7% from $11.56 billion in the previous quarter, and net loss fell 64.9% from $66.3 billion.

Of the net loss, $21.9 billion was an accounting loss reflecting fair-value adjustments to convertible bonds and other securities. The actual net loss is therefore estimated at about $1.4 billion. Operating income of $974 million in the second quarter turned into an operating loss of $567 million in the third quarter.

Anthropic entered into spending commitments, including lease payments, to secure cloud computing capacity and data center infrastructure. As of September 30, future spending under AI infrastructure purchase and lease commitments totaled $895.4 billion. Of that, $447.5 billion is due by the end of 2030, and $69.8 billion is due within the next 12 months.

Anthropic said computing and infrastructure costs rose 382% while third-quarter revenue grew 1,127% year over year, citing improved computing efficiency in high-performance models. The company filed its IPO registration statement with the SEC on October 26 and plans to list Class A common stock on Nasdaq this month under ticker ANT.

Reuters and Bloomberg reported that investors and others in the investment industry estimate Anthropic’s public-market valuation at $1.5 trillion, close to SpaceX’s $1.8 trillion valuation when it listed in June. Yonhap reported that Anthropic’s third-quarter net loss fell to about one-third of the previous quarter’s level; the disclosed reduction was 64.9%. Operating results, however, shifted from a profit to a loss. The filing also included infrastructure commitments due by the end of 2030 and payments scheduled within the next 12 months. The $1.5 trillion figure is an investor estimate, not a confirmed IPO price. Anthropic has begun the listing process and, if its plan proceeds, its shares are expected to trade on Nasdaq this month under ANT.
