Anthropic is acquiring Opaque through an acquihire structure in which it licenses Opaque's technology and brings on part of the team. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, according to Opaque CEO Aaron Fulkerson, who noted the deal in a post. Constellation Insights reported the news on October 13, 2026.

Opaque specializes in confidential computing and confidential AI. Since launching, it partnered with Nvidia, Intel, Microsoft and Google on confidential computing. After closing a $24 million Series B round at a $300 million valuation, Opaque rolled out a security framework that was adopted in Europe and the UAE. In recent months, it has been rolling out open standards for sovereign AI and on-premise deployments.

The article says the deal fits Anthropic's growing push toward enterprises considering on-premise deployments, open models and sovereign AI architectures. In a post, Fulkerson said the agreement carries Opaque's work forward and credited the team with building a company from university research, helping establish confidential AI as a category, advancing verifiable AI into working technology, and showing that some of the hardest AI security problems could be solved.
