AI company Baba secured $40 million in Series A funding to modernize the Medicare and Medicaid experience. FirstMark Capital led the round, joined by CVS Health Ventures and Valtruis; returning investors General Catalyst, Genius Ventures and Ground Up Ventures also participated. FirstMark co-founder Rick Heitzmann called the investment a bet on making healthcare more consumer-oriented for rural, older Americans with complex needs, and said AI could provide Medicare patients and families coordinated care.
Founded in 2025, Baba connects Medicare and Medicaid patients with dedicated care teams, including care coordinators and licensed therapists. The company says it has partnered with national health plans and government agencies, supports more than 10,000 patients and has 100,000 families on its waiting list. The U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services selected Baba for the 10-year ACCESS model.
Baba plans to use the funding to expand its research, reach more health plans and accelerate value-based arrangements. CEO and founder Connor Sweeney said the capital will help scale care delivery and coordination for people with government-sponsored coverage. He said the company is deepening work with payers on value-based arrangements and building toward a model in which it takes on risk, aiming for coordinated and accountable care.
Baba is also building an applied research effort for AI solutions in complex care. It launched BabaBench, a benchmark measuring frontier AI agents’ ability to perform long-horizon patient advocacy tasks, including paperwork, billing and calls to insurers.
