Brennan CIO Builds NetSuite Apps With AI Agents

  • •A production call screen records customer details across hundreds of calls; King says ERP expertise is needed to guide agents.

Ryan King, CIO of hydraulic parts maker Brennan Industries, is using Anthropic Claude Code, OpenAI Codex and, more recently, NetSuite Next to build apps for colleagues who work in the company’s Oracle NetSuite ERP system. He says the tools let him complete up to five projects a day, compared with a week or more for each project before. Instead of leaving the apps running on an AI platform, King has the agents create them in SuiteScript so they run on NetSuite after deployment, reducing the need to keep using AI and consuming tokens for routine work.

King says a typical project begins with a colleague explaining requirements; he then spends less than an hour creating a mockup, often completing it in 45 minutes, for review and revisions. After approval, he builds the app in SuiteScript within NetSuite and puts it into use. He says work that previously involved a group of people and lengthy meetings can now be implemented in an afternoon.

The apps give employees simpler screens while NetSuite handles the underlying ERP processes. King says Brennan is rebuilding its environment from scratch, with forms tailored to how the business works. In one app already in production, a single screen connected to NetSuite’s CRM records information during customer calls about parts, prices and delivery dates. Previously, sales staff did not record call details because switching between screens was too burdensome; orders were recorded, but not the call context.

King says the call app hides the CRM workflow from employees while collecting information for follow-up and preserving call histories the company had not been able to gather before. Brennan handles hundreds of these calls, and King says staff can now use the screen and complete a couple of steps. He describes the app as a game changer for the company and says he built the screen in an afternoon, rather than taking two weeks or three months.

King cautions that building these apps requires someone who understands NetSuite and can specify the steps, processes and data the agent should handle, as well as answer questions quickly. He says the AI platforms are tools, not magic, and that users must guide them with knowledge of the ERP system.
