Claude Chats Appeared on Google
- •Publicly shared Claude conversations reportedly became searchable through Google using site:claude.ai/share queries
- •Reports said hundreds of Claude chats covered legal matters, software development and personal discussions
- •Many affected Google results reportedly disappeared by Sunday, but shared links may still work
Anthropic's AI chatbot Claude faced privacy scrutiny after reports said some publicly shared conversations became discoverable through Google Search on 27 July 2026. Media reports said a Google query for "site:claude.ai/share" returned links to hundreds of Claude conversations, including exchanges about legal matters, software development, technical troubleshooting and personal discussions.
The reported issue involved Claude's shareable chat links, which let users send conversation pages to other people. According to reports, some shared pages lacked a "noindex" instruction (a request blocking search listing), allowing search engines to list those pages in results when the links had also been posted publicly elsewhere.
The conversations still reportedly required the shared URL for access, but Google indexing made them easier to find online. The issue was first highlighted in a Reddit discussion, where users said indexed conversations covered a wide range of sensitive topics, and reports compared the case with similar chat-sharing issues on other AI platforms.
Reports said many affected Google results had disappeared by Sunday, suggesting the pages may have been de-indexed (removed from search listings) or that changes had stopped further indexing. At the time of publication, Anthropic had not publicly commented on the reported incident or explained what caused it.
Moneycontrol reported that privacy experts warned previously shared links may continue to work even after pages disappear from Google Search. Users who no longer need public Claude chat links were advised in the reports to review, delete or revoke them because anyone with access to those links may still be able to view the conversations.
