Databricks is securing a $3 billion funding round led by Coatue, bringing its valuation to $188 billion. This figure represents a 40% increase since its last capital raise in February, though the amount is less than half of what the company secured in its prior round. As of July 21, 2026, the company has raised $29.5 billion in total capital to date.
Despite the growth, the valuation is described as modest compared to Anthropic, which saw its valuation climb from $380 billion to $965 billion over the same period. Databricks currently ranks behind only Anthropic, OpenAI, Tether, and ByteDance in total valuation among private companies. According to PitchBook data, the five largest venture deals in the first quarter of 2026 accounted for 77.6% of all new unicorn investments, underscoring heavy capital concentration in top-tier startups.
Databricks intends to utilize the new funding to expand its AI-focused product suite, specifically targeting its multi-AI governance tool (software for managing AI usage and costs), workplace AI agents, and a serverless Postgres database designed for AI agents. Investors view this move as a strategic step to prepare for an eventual IPO. Gaurav Mathur of Pinegrove Opportunity Partners noted that current market conditions allow companies to achieve efficiency through scale, which drives market share growth despite high valuations.
