DeepSeek made Harness Desktop available in public preview worldwide on October 2, 2026, for macOS and Windows. The open-source tool uses Cordis’s “everything is a plugin” architecture and can run as a desktop app or through a web interface launched from code.

Harness is designed for everyday work, coding, research, and background tasks. It can organize files, analyze data, draft documents, create slides, explore code repositories, fix bugs, build features, run tests and scripts, batch-process files, and find information with fact checks and citations. Users can install plugins or create them through chat in Creator mode to extend tools, skills, and the interface.

Users can preview work such as documents, spreadsheets, and code, then refine results through conversation. A Scheduled tasks plugin can start tasks on demand and run recurring work on a schedule; users can track progress and inspect tool-call details. Developer tools provide execution traces and runtime information for troubleshooting. To launch the web UI, users install Node.js and run `npx @deepseek-ai/dsh web`; alternatively, they can clone the source repository and follow its setup instructions. DeepSeek says the preview’s core plugins and APIs are evolving and invites users and developers to explore its reusable, composable open-source infrastructure.
