Evernote Tests ChatGPT Ads for Subscriptions
  • •Evernote used ChatGPT Ads to guide prospective users from ad clicks to account registrations, free trials and subscriptions.
  • •About 25% of desktop visits led to new accounts; trial-to-paid conversion was 10–20% above a historical average.
  • •Evernote called first-month results directional and plans additional use cases, creative and dedicated landing pages.

Evernote used ChatGPT Ads to reach people working with AI and track whether they became subscribers. Its core campaigns focused on a single product feature and sent people to Evernote’s website, including its homepage, with ads optimized for new-account registrations. Evernote used its first-party web analytics and subscription records to follow users from an ad click through account creation, a free trial and a first subscription payment. It counted an account as coming from ChatGPT Ads when the user’s first tagged visit followed an ad click.

In the first month, around 25% of desktop visits from the featured campaigns resulted in a new Evernote account. Among users from those campaigns, free-trial-to-paid conversion was about 10–20% higher than Evernote’s historical average across paid-acquisition channels earlier this year. The comparison used trials started August 28–September 12, 2026, against historical benchmark trials started March–August 2026; it does not establish incremental lift. The desktop registration measure covered September 14–28, 2026.

Evernote’s initial ads presented the service as a place to save and organize notes and transcriptions, drawing on messaging from its strong-performing search campaigns. The company said people working with conversations, notes and transcriptions may want a place to organize that material and find it again. Data Analyst Claudio Di Blasi of Bending Spoons said new users need to see enough value to become paying customers. Evernote also said that while many people know its name, they may not know how the product has evolved as it develops AI capabilities.

Evernote described the first-month results as encouraging and directional while it tests whether performance can hold as the channel grows. The team plans to explore more use cases and create ads and dedicated landing pages showing how Evernote may fit into users’ work. Di Blasi said the early subscription conversion suggested the campaigns were reaching people who found value in the product.
