Google Sheets Adds Gemini Formula Troubleshooting
- •Gemini in Google Sheets now provides troubleshooting for formula errors with suggested corrections.
- •The update includes a Fix button in the sidebar that explains technical errors like #REF! or #VALUE!.
- •Higher usage limits for the feature remain active for select business and education users until July 15, 2026.
Google has introduced an upgraded troubleshooting feature for Gemini within Google Sheets, designed to assist users in resolving formula errors. Previously, while the software could generate formulas, it lacked the ability to effectively address manual entry mistakes. The updated system now analyzes both the specific formula and the surrounding data to identify issues, providing a plain-language explanation of why a calculation failed.
When a formula error occurs, such as #REF! or #VALUE!, Sheets will now display a 'Fix' button. Clicking this opens the Gemini sidebar, which details the error and suggests the correct formula to resolve the problem. This functionality is intended to bridge the gap between generic, often vague system error messages and the specific needs of users attempting to build complex equations.
The enhanced capability is currently rolling out to users with Business, Enterprise, Education, AI Pro, and AI Ultra licenses. Google has announced that higher usage limits will be available to all these users through July 15, 2026. Following that date, usage limits will tighten, and higher capacity will be restricted exclusively to those holding AI Expanded Access licenses. Further details regarding these post-deadline limits will be provided by the company before they take effect. This update follows the recent introduction of custom instructions for Gemini in Google Docs, which launched approximately one month prior to allow for personalized AI assistant tailoring.
