Hornetsecurity by Proofpoint announced on October 15, 2026, a set of Microsoft 365 security updates intended to help organisations and managed service providers prepare for AI adoption. The capabilities are rolling out in Q4 2026 and cover permission and sharing risks, explanations of AI-powered email assessments, adaptive security awareness training in Microsoft Teams, and centralised security management. CEO Daniel Hofmann said AI use can amplify the effects of overly broad permissions, unclear sharing settings and employees’ lack of confidence, and said organisations need strong security foundations for AI readiness.

The new Tenant Risk Exposure feature adds a visual overview of permission and sharing risks across Microsoft 365 tenants for managed service providers and administrators. Dashboard widgets flag anonymous access, external users, organisation-wide permissions, public groups, inactive guests and orphaned accounts. The updated interface shows where risks exist, offers shortcuts for manual or automatic remediation, and provides a report on tenant status. The 365 Permission Manager makes access and sharing structures across SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Teams visible and adjustable.

Hornetsecurity’s Explainability in Email Live Tracking feature is designed to clarify why its AI Email Security Analyst classifies an email as suspicious or legitimate, helping security teams investigate false positives or potentially incorrect decisions and consider remediation. Its Security Awareness Service is also extending automated, adaptive training to Microsoft Teams through AI.MY, the platform’s AI Cyber Assistant. After an e-learning session, AI.MY asks each employee three questions tailored to their awareness level and gives immediate feedback; results update the employee’s knowledge profile so organisations can measure learning progress and identify further training needs.

A new AI Cyber Assistant Agent in the 365 Total Protection Control Panel provides conversational product assistance to partners and administrators on onboarding, configuration, product use and security operations. It also helps partners match solutions to customer needs, turn customer pain points into recommendations and identify opportunities to extend protection. Hornetsecurity says the agent can reduce research, support and consultation effort. The company says it operates in more than 120 countries through 12,000+ channel partners and managed service providers, and that its services are used by more than 125,000 customers.
