South Korea’s Ministry of Science and ICT and Ministry of Intellectual Property will jointly hold the 2026 Global ICT Standards Conference (GISC) at Seoul’s EL Tower in Yangjae from November 2 to 4. The international event will address standardization strategies for emerging technologies, including physical AI and agentic AI, as well as patent policy.
Marking its 10th year, GISC will discuss how to lead technical standards for physical AI and agentic AI, described as key technologies in the AI transformation, and how to expand them across economic and social sectors. Participants will include standards organizations MLCommons and IEEE, regional standards body ETSI, and overseas governments and agencies, including Singapore’s Infocomm Media Development Authority.
The conference will open with a keynote by Young Jae Jang, a professor at KAIST. Korean and international experts will then hold a discussion on spreading AI and ICT standards and patents. The Telecommunications Technology Association of Korea (TTA) will report on progress and future plans for the AI Partnership Project (AIPP), which it is pursuing with ETSI, the US organization ATIS and Japan’s TTC.
The government plans to present 27 commendations and awards to organizations and companies that contributed to strengthening national competitiveness in AI and ICT standards and patents. The article does not name the planned recipients.
