Legora raised $550 million at a post-money valuation of $8.8 billion, and CEO Max Junestrand said the funding will support faster growth as the company builds legal software for long-term use. He described the raise as a major moment for the team and its customers. Three years ago, Legora was a handful of people working from a law firm meeting room in Stockholm; today, more than 140,000 legal professionals at more than 2,400 law firms and in-house teams use its software. Junestrand said the company has built with customers from day one.
Junestrand said Legora aims to operate for decades and wants its aOS platform to host legal work that AI makes less costly or slow to complete. He envisions agents handling complete tasks, from one contract to an entire deal, while lawyers direct the agents and take responsibility for the results. He said the platform is at the very start of its capabilities.
In-house legal teams are a growing customer group as they handle faster-moving business demands, often without adding staff, and seek AI tools similar to those used by their outside law firms. Legora’s product now supports tasks including sorting incoming legal requests and reviewing contracts in volume. In the third quarter, in-house teams accounted for more than 40% of new customers, compared with a small fraction a year earlier.
Legora took less than 18 months to grow annual recurring revenue from $1 million to $100 million, then less than six months to add another $100 million; revenue is now above $200 million. Junestrand said the company has maintained positive gross margin from the start and that it continues to improve. Legora has not disclosed a public revenue target for the next 12 months, but plans continued growth and says the funding will help it grow faster.
