LG Electronics CEO Puts Care at the Center of AI Homes

LG Electronics CEO Jae-cheol Ryu said on LinkedIn on the 2nd that “care” should be the next standard for AI homes, which connect household spaces, appliances and services through artificial intelligence. He said controlling more individual products does not necessarily make housework easier, and that progress should be measured by whether AI homes save customers time and effort.
Ryu said Wi-Fi appliances and smartphone apps in the early 2010s ushered in an era of remote control, known as the “connected home,” but also increased the number of apps and settings people had to manage. An AI home, he said, should change how a home operates rather than simply add AI features to connected devices. He described care as devices working together around people’s needs, reducing the need for separate instructions and adjustments.
Ryu said LG Electronics’ AI home vision, “Zero Labor Home,” aims in that direction. AI homes should reduce repetitive household chores while helping customers make important decisions themselves, he said. Customers should be able to check, change or stop how their homes operate, and decide when their approval is required. Convenience should not come at the expense of control or trust, he said.
Ryu said no single company can provide all the capabilities needed for a fully realized AI home, making cooperation among brands important. LG Electronics is working with Microsoft, Apple and others to advance AI home technology. He said the company would pursue its goal of saving customers time and effort by drawing on its understanding of customers and living spaces, its product and platform technology, and global partnerships.
