LG Shares AI Safety Cases Across Affiliates
- •LG’s two-day safety conference brought together more than 350 staff from 16 affiliates and shared 21 cases, including 15 using AI.
- •LG’s AI systems detect CCTV hazards, stop equipment, and cut posture assessment from 30 minutes to 6 minutes.
- •LG reports 98% shorter document reviews and a 27% improvement in contractor risk assessment levels.
LG held its group Safety, Health and Environment Conference, LG SHEC, at LG Sciencepark in Magok, Seoul, for two days from November 4, sharing safety and environmental improvements from 16 affiliates. More than 350 affiliate staff attended, along with 20 employees from overseas sites in the United States, China, India and Poland. The event also offered AI interpretation services supporting Chinese, Vietnamese and other languages.
This year’s theme was “Drive the Shift,” calling for changes to safety and environmental work practices in line with the AI Transformation (AX) and Robot Transformation (RX). Of 21 safety, health and environmental improvement cases presented, 15 used AI. Applications included hazard detection, equipment control, work analysis and document review.
LG Electronics presented an integrated monitoring system that connects 4,226 CCTV cameras at its domestic sites and construction locations to an internally developed AI solution. When the AI detects a hazard, the system can stop equipment, block access or issue a warning announcement. It automatically cuts power if a person is detected while painting equipment is operating. LG Display developed a system that analyzes work videos to assess musculoskeletal strain on areas such as the back and shoulders. The AI rates posture risks and proposes improvements, reducing assessment time from 30 minutes to 6 minutes.
LG Chem applied an internally developed AI agent, a program that performs tasks, to Process Safety Management (PSM). The system automatically compares documents against compliance procedures in nine areas, including equipment changes and inspections, cutting review time by 98%. LG Uplus’s contractor risk assessment app generates hazard factors, mitigation measures and pre-work safety meeting materials in about five minutes after users enter job details. The risk assessment levels of 21 contractors that adopted the app improved by 27% from before its use.
LG selected six production and manufacturing sites as “2026 LG Group Safety and Environmental Model Sites,” based on their accident prevention activities and safety management levels. The company said it plans to expand the AI safety cases shared at the event to sites in South Korea and abroad. An LG representative said changes in AI technology and work practices present an opportunity to raise safety and environmental management standards, and said LG would support wider adoption of the cases to build workplaces where people can work with confidence. The remarks reflect LG’s plans and position.
