  • •The system analyzed one dataset 45 times faster than legal experts, with 26% higher accuracy and costs at about one-thousandth the level.

LG AI Research received the National Intellectual Property Commission Chairperson’s Award for EXAONE Nexus at the 2026 International Copyright Technology Conference (ICOTEC), hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the 4th. EXAONE Nexus is an AI agent specializing in compliance that automatically analyzes copyright, licensing and privacy risks in large AI training datasets. LG AI Research plans to enter overseas compliance markets with the system.

According to LG AI Research, EXAONE Nexus analyzes one dataset 45 times faster than legal experts, delivers 26% higher accuracy and costs about one-thousandth as much. The company says copyright disputes over training data have become a legal risk, while the difficulty of manually reviewing vast datasets makes automated checks directly relevant to AI development costs.

The institute built its own compliance framework reflecting South Korea’s AI Basic Act and the European Union’s AI Act, aiming to address differences among national regulations. It worked with about 40 lawyers at major domestic and international law firms, including firms in the United States, to check the legal validity of its analyses. It also released risk assessment results for more than 20,000 open datasets used in validation to academic and research communities.

LG AI Research designated EXAONE Nexus as a required check for every AI model it develops internally. The system will be used throughout the process, from data collection and cleaning through model development and service deployment. After completing internal adoption, the institute plans to expand supply to overseas customers, including global technology companies and law firms; it did not disclose a launch schedule or business scale.

Lee Hwa-young, head of AI business development at LG AI Research, said social trust is a key source of corporate competitiveness as AI advances and said the institute would continue to deliver reliable, high-performing AI technology. Since its founding in 2020, the institute has filed 1,131 patents: 537 in South Korea and 594 overseas. On the 2nd, IP strategy leader Yoo Kyung-jae received the Deputy Prime Minister’s Award from the Ministry of Science and ICT at the ICT Patent Management Awards for building an intelligent system for reporting research inventions. The institute has also participated more than 30 times in global AI ethics and governance discussions.

LG Chairman Koo Kwang-mo has said companies should view compliance as core infrastructure for growth and development. The report linked LG AI Research’s award, internal adoption of EXAONE Nexus and overseas supply plans to that management approach.
