Meta began offering its personal AI agent Muse in Japan on October 23. Muse launched in North America in September and exceeded 10 million downloads within one month. Japan is its first market outside North America. Users can access it through Android and iOS apps or at muse.ai. Meta also offers a subscription plan for more extensive use.

Muse answers questions, helps users reach goals, and carries out tasks. Users describe a request in the app, and Muse makes a plan and does the necessary work. It can send email, book travel, plan for larger goals, and coordinate time and resources. It can also operate a browser on the user's behalf, including filling out forms.

Muse continues time-consuming tasks after users close the app. It sends notifications when circumstances change or when it needs approval for actions such as sending email or buying a product. It can remember what matters to users and make suggestions or take actions based on past conversations.

Alongside Meta services, Muse offers connectors to external apps. It can link to Gmail, Google Calendar, and Instagram to manage email, coordinate schedules, and use saved content. It also connects with Stripe, Shopify, Trip.com, Agoda, and Klook. In Japan, Meta is working on integrations with Mercari, Money Forward ME, and Ticket Pia.

At Meta Connect in September, Meta announced a voice mode that handles tasks in the background during long, natural conversations, the English-only Muse Realtime Avatar, and a dedicated Muse email address for task handling and communication. Meta said it would announce plans for bringing these features to Japan separately.

Meta says Muse runs on a dedicated virtual machine, a software-based computer environment, called Muse Secure VM. Connected-service data and login credentials can be stored in a cloud environment isolated for each user. A separate Sentinel agent manages Muse's internet access. Muse cannot view passwords or payment methods, and asks users to confirm before sending email or making purchases. Users can review completed actions and upcoming tasks in their history.
