OpenAI Tightens ChatGPT Violence Controls
- •OpenAI said on Nov. 2 it is tightening ChatGPT controls around violence
- •Teen accounts will face added limits on weapons information, even for apparently harmless questions
- •All users will see fewer details about past mass attacks, weapons and how they were obtained
OpenAI said on Nov. 2, 2026, that it is tightening ChatGPT’s controls on violence. Teen accounts will face further limits on weapons-related information, including when a question appears harmless. The company is also restricting responses for all users about past mass attacks, with ChatGPT set to share fewer details about the people who carried them out, the weapons used and how those weapons were obtained.
OpenAI described the measures as part of a community safety report and as new protections for teens. The announcement specifies separate measures for teen accounts and all users: teens will have added limits on weapons information, while restrictions on mass-attack details will apply across ChatGPT. The report does not provide numerical measures of how much information responses will withhold.
