OpenAI Says Japan Ranks Second for dots Users
  • •OpenAI Japan president said Japan ranks second worldwide in weekly active users of the dots AI agent.
  • •More than 1,200 people across the CyberAgent group use dots for work and coding support.
  • •Kaze no Heritage uses dots for planning and social media; both companies apply security controls.

Tadao Nagasaki, president of OpenAI Japan, said on October 20 at the developer event DevDay Exchange Tokyo that Japan ranks second worldwide in weekly active users of dots, OpenAI’s AI agent. OpenAI announced dots on September 29 local time. Available through ChatGPT, it advances tasks on its own based on a user’s goal and accessible surrounding information. OpenAI did not disclose Japan’s user count.

Nagasaki said he uses dots for work and feels it may help free people from cumbersome tasks. He said it could substantially change how people live and work in six months to a year, or in several years. Vijay Raj, OpenAI’s chief technology officer for applications, also spoke at the event, discussing service updates and ways to use them.

More than 500 developers, researchers and others attended. CyberAgent’s Ken Takao said more than 1,200 people across the company group use dots; that figure is separate from weekly active users. Slack integration and voice calls support work and coding. Takao said he finished a task while talking with dots in a taxi on his way to the venue.

Hiromi Ushiki of Kaze no Heritage, a Kyoto-based company involved in hotel operations, said she has dots suggest tasks each morning based on her schedule and Slack conversations. The company also uses it for social media management. CyberAgent worked with its security team to limit some features during internal rollout, while Kaze no Heritage set rules requiring user approval for certain actions. The article corrected the product’s name from “Dots” to “dots.”
