Salesforce Details Claude Commerce Agents
- •Anthropic launched a Claude blueprint for commerce agents with reference code, guardrails, and best practices
- •Salesforce says Commerce Cloud Merchant Agent cuts time-to-task completion by over 86% on average
- •Cacau Show reported 32% higher conversion and 50% higher revenue after launching Shopper Agent
Salesforce said on September 22 that Anthropic recently launched a developer blueprint for building commerce agents on Claude, while Salesforce Commerce Cloud is positioning its own Shopper Agent, Merchant Agent, catalog syndication, and Commerce MCP server as connected tools for agentic commerce. Anthropic’s starter kit includes reference code, guardrails, and best practices for a shopping agent that helps customers browse, compare, and buy, and a merchant agent that helps retailers manage inventory, pricing, and promotions. Salesforce said the kit can cut weeks of engineering work down to days.
Commerce Cloud customers can use turn-key catalog syndication for OpenAI and Google Gemini, a Shopper Agent on the storefront, a Merchant Agent in the back office, and an open Commerce data model through the Commerce MCP server. Salesforce said MCP lets AI applications, including Claude, connect to Commerce Cloud for product information, order data, environment configurations, and related commerce data. The company framed this as a “build it” or “buy it” choice: merchants can build their own agent experience with Claude or another model through catalog, cart, checkout, and merchant APIs, or use Commerce Cloud’s native Shopper Agent and Merchant Agent.
Salesforce said Merchant Agent for Claude can analyze performance, identify issues, stage promotions, provide data-driven insights, recommend next-best actions, and support workflows for catalog management, inventory, pricing, and campaign execution. Commerce Cloud customers using Salesforce’s Merchant Agent are seeing early results from data analysis, proactive insights, and built-in agentic actions, with time-to-task completion cut by over 86% on average. Salesforce said its agentic merchandising architecture covers outcomes and strategy, workflow mapping, guardrails and compliance, assortment curation, data integrity audits, experimentation, and attribution.
Salesforce said its Merchant Agent pairs a conversational interface with a visual canvas because merchandising work often involves arranging, auditing, comparing, correcting, and publishing in the same task. The company said merchants can use natural language when conversation is faster, or use a visual layout when spatial precision and product presentation matter.
Salesforce said Shopper Agent on Salesforce B2C Commerce lets shoppers browse, compare, decide, and buy through natural-language conversations on a brand’s own storefront. The agent can check stock, shipping cutoffs, and pickup options, then complete a purchase in the same conversation with visual, on-brand product displays. Salesforce said Cacau Show saw a 32% increase in conversion and a 50% increase in revenue after launching Shopper Agent on its site.
Salesforce said consumer use of agentic search as the first stop in the shopping journey grew 200% year-over-year, and 90% of commerce leaders believe LLMs will be essential to product discovery by 2027. Commerce Cloud’s out-of-the-box integrations for ChatGPT and Google let customers syndicate products into those channels so shoppers can find, recommend, and compare products through ChatGPT, Google AI Mode, and Gemini.
