SK Telecom Boosts Busan Fireworks Network Support
  • •SK Telecom is strengthening AI-based network quality management ahead of the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival.
  • •More than 1.2 million people are expected near Gwangalli, and the company is adding a user satisfaction metric.
  • •Temporary mobile base stations and real-time traffic load balancing will support service during the festival.

SK Telecom said on November 5 that it is strengthening network quality management ahead of the 21st Busan Fireworks Festival, scheduled for November 7, by adding a “user-perceived quality satisfaction rate” metric to its AI-based network operations system. The company expects more than 1.2 million people to gather around Gwangalli Beach on the festival day and has prepared special network support measures.

The satisfaction rate measures the share of time that service stays above a defined quality threshold, complementing the existing approach centered on peak speeds. SK Telecom will assess four service categories—web, social media, business collaboration and high-definition streaming—and analyze weak spots using GPS coordinates on a grid. AI will also use location data to distinguish situations such as users traveling by KTX or subway and assess quality accordingly.

The wireless network AI operations system A-One estimates required capacity in advance based on expected attendance and past traffic. Spider, the core network’s AI integrated monitoring system, watches for anomalies in real time; on the festival day, SK Telecom will use AI-based real-time traffic load balancing.

SK Telecom will install additional temporary relay equipment, including mobile base stations, at Gwangalli Beach and Marine City. Yongho Bay and Igidae will also receive focused monitoring, and the company will adjust network coverage in each area in advance. Cho Wook, SK Telecom’s eastern network division head, said adding the satisfaction-rate metric to existing AI solutions would help the company monitor the quality customers actually experience. The support measures, including those for the festival day, will be used to operate the network during the festival.
