SMFL Launches Personalized Business App SaaS
  • •SMFL began offering generative AI-developed business apps tailored to each user through SaaS on November 4.
  • •A project that previously took six people about six months was completed by one employee in one week.
  • •An asset management service with more than 200 screens is expected to cut development and testing time to one-third of the previous period.

Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) began offering personalized enterprise SaaS on November 4, 2026. The service uses generative AI to build business applications around each user's requirements. Development uses Replit, a cloud-based development environment from the U.S. company Replit, and SMFL's method, “enterprise vibe coding.” In SMFL's tests, one person completed in one week a project that would traditionally have taken six people about six months.

SMFL's forward deployed engineers (FDEs) build prototypes at customers' workplaces, then revise them based on user feedback. Users describe desired screens in natural language, while data handled by the applications is managed in assetforce, SMFL's cloud database. SMFL applied Replit's vibe coding to custom development because standard SaaS products are difficult to customize for each company's screens and features, while conventional custom development takes time and labor for requirements definition and coding.

SMFL's enterprise vibe coding method divides context to reduce token consumption costs and checks the quality of AI-generated code through testing. Because generative AI may produce different code in response to the same instruction, a quality management agent tests code against specifications and conditions using deterministic tests, which return the same result when given the same code and conditions. SMFL engineers make the final review rather than leaving that decision to AI.

SMFL first applied the method to its own development. In rebuilding its comprehensive asset management service, which it has used internally and offered to customers since 2004, the company worked on more than 200 screens related to accounting and tax processing. Teams built the required screens, defined the behavior of each function button, and developed in parallel. SMFL expects checks by the quality management agent and engineers to reduce development and testing time after project definition to one-third of the previous period.

For assetforce, SMFL developed screens and features specific to each industry and company for workflows covering assets from acquisition through use, maintenance, and disposal. A task estimated to take six people about six months through conventional custom development was completed by one SMFL employee in one week. SMFL also plans to begin offering Replit licenses and enterprise training. The article features SMFL President Tetsuro Imaeda and Replit co-founder and CEO Amjad Masad.
