U.S. President Donald Trump said on Truth Social on the 6th, local time, that he fully supports data centers and the superintelligence industry in the United States. He said he would work with states seeking to become wealthy by adopting superintelligence, and called data centers and superintelligence “as good as gold.” Superintelligence (SI) is a term Trump uses in place of artificial intelligence. He said only foolish leaders would reject technology that could bring immense wealth.
His remarks targeted Democrats, who won a landslide in the midterm elections after pledging tighter data center regulation. Democrats appealed to voters’ concerns that data centers’ heavy electricity use would raise power bills and increase environmental burdens, winning in key areas including Texas and Ohio. The article said measures to halt or pause construction of new data centers in the United States had become more likely.
The previous day, the Nasdaq fell about 5.5% amid concerns about Democratic-led AI regulation. The article described it as the index’s worst drop in 19 months and said major AI-related stocks also plunged across the board. Trump blamed Democrats for the market decline and used “Dumocrat,” a derogatory term for the party.
Despite community concerns about power shortages, Trump maintained that large-scale investment in data centers was essential for the United States to win the AI race with China. He dismissed calls from some in the industry to slow AI development as a fraud and conspiracy that would benefit only China. He claimed that attracting data centers would create local jobs and lower taxes.
