Frequently asked questions

Is a free AI plan good enough?

If you ask a few light questions a day, free is enough. Free plans give you few uses of the best model, and once you hit the limit you wait or get switched to a lighter model. If you use AI for work every day, or often work with long documents, code or images, a paid plan is clearly easier.

If I subscribe to only one of ChatGPT, Claude or Gemini, which should it be?

It depends on what you use it for. At the same price, a different company leads in writing, coding, research and image generation. Pick your use and budget in the 10-second AI check above and we'll choose the best-fitting plan from the /models scores for that use.

Is the price shown what I'll actually pay?

Not always. Prices marked ≈ are converted from US dollars, so the real charge can add local sales tax or VAT and card foreign-transaction fees, and it moves a little each month with the exchange rate. Plans with an official local price usually charge that amount with tax included.

Is it more expensive to subscribe in the iPhone or Android app?

It can differ. In-app purchases use App Store or Google Play pricing, which is a fixed local price and can even be cheaper than the web when your currency is weak. In return, you cancel and request refunds through that store. Prices on this page follow each company's official web page.

Do I get a refund for the rest of the month if I cancel?

Usually you keep access until the end of the current billing period, and the unused time isn't refunded. Cancel before the renewal date to stop the next charge. If you paid through an app store, cancel and ask for refunds there. Refund rules right after paying vary by company and country.

Can several people share one account?

Most terms of service say one account is for one person. Sharing means everyone sees each other's chats, and unusual logins can get the account suspended. If several people need it, check for a team or family plan.

If I pay, are my chats kept out of AI training?

Not automatically. Even on paid personal plans, chats can be used to improve the service. You can turn this off in each service's data or privacy settings. Business plans (Team, Business, Enterprise) don't train on your data by default.

Are there student discounts?

Many companies offer them, but they usually require verifying your country or school and run for a limited time. The deals you can get right now are collected in Promotions above.

Isn't the API cheaper?

If you only ask a few light questions a day, pay-as-you-go API can be cheaper. If you use AI for hours every day, or use image, voice or agent features, a subscription is usually the better deal. To check with your own usage, try the AI cost calculator. AI cost calculator

Can I compare "5x more usage" across companies?

No. Claude measures against its free plan, Google against its own base plan, and ChatGPT Pro gives no multiple at all, just more or less between its plans. So we show each company's own wording and add a separate 5-level usage grade for comparison.
